Imagine you are at a job interview. Actually you have passed all the rigorous interview stages and now you are at the job selection. They are hiring one person a day. Sounds great, right? It is just a matter of time before you are chosen because you have the perfect skills, experience and attitude for the job. And you are so excited about this job! They will pick you for sure, you have no doubt.
However, the selection process is done in a large auditorium. There are 25,000 other perfectly qualified applicants in the auditorium. The selection committee sits on the stage and they speak into the microphone – “Who wants to be hired today?” Everyone is raising their hands and yelling “Pick me! Pick me!” But they are only hiring one person today. And no matter how high you wave your hands and how loud you yell, they don’t see you and they choose someone else.
You go back every day and do this time after time after time. And then one day you get lucky and you get a seat front row center. They see you, they hear you and they pick you! Finally! You have been dreaming of this day for a long long time. You feel like you just won the lottery, and basically you did!
You start your new job immediately. And by immediately I mean like right that second. How do you imagine you are going to perform? Are you going to slough off and get yourself fired and have to begin this process all over again? Or are you going to work your ass off and do the job that you have dreamed about and love 100%?
This is how I remember the selection process for being born. There are thousands of souls wanting to come to the planet to do what they love. The reason is different slightly for each soul, but it always has to do with love. Not everyone wants to come but those that do have to be selected for the right time. The day you were born was the right time for you. And if your memory switch hadn’t been turned to OFF (which was a mutual decision by the way) you would remember this too. Chances are you don’t. But believe me, you had a burning desire to be here on this planet RIGHT NOW and you had a mission. What are you doing about that?
The funny thing about knowledge is that you may not know something but once you do, you can’t un-know it!
So now you know. I just busted you!
Filling in the gap from the day you were born up until this day, today, you have had struggles and setbacks, whatever they may be. We all have. And sometimes it seems that we have done all we have had to do to just manage these. That has taken up a lot of your time. That is what you have focused all your time and energy on.
You ARE here for a reason. You decided that before you were born. You are here to teach others, to heal others, to change the world. What are you waiting for? Now that you know this you can no longer spend your time focusing on the struggles, mishaps or victimization of your past. You need to fulfill your commitment. But what if you are unsure what that is?
I suggest you take a few moments and grab a pen and paper. Write down exactly what it is that you have overcome or what you are struggling with right now. The truth is that our message is in our mess, our purpose is in our pain, and our victor is in our victim. So write down all the struggles in your life, all of the pain you have ever felt, and all of the circumstances you have been trying to change.
The next step is to find what is good about your situation, what you have learned, how this has molded you into the perfect human being that you truly are right now. How can you turn what you have formerly perceived as your weakness into your strength? Has this made you more compassionate? Has this made you grateful for other things? Has this given you knowledge about a situation, disease, etc.?
We ALL are here for a reason. And when I say ALL that means you! You have a job to do, a job you chose for this lifetime a long time ago. A job you wanted so badly that you went to the auditorium time after time after time until you were the special one chosen to do it. And it has its own unique flavor that stands out from everyone else. So now you know! And now you can no longer just plug through your day mindlessly. You read this post because you are ready.
And I’m once again sharing my most favorite inspiration poem by Marianne Williamson with you today to give you that extra push!
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
~Marianne Williamson

Aw thanks Don! I appreciate your comments, thanks for taking the time to leave them! It means a lot!
Dear Laura,
I love the idea of all the souls striving to get their place in a new baby being born! Alot of people dont feel grateful for their life as they have forgotten what they came here to do. I hope those who have forgot, do remember and really work out how to enjoy themselves now! Great job you are doing Laura 🙂

Thanks Jennifer! I love it when I hear from people that have the same thoughts as me, it makes me feel even more connected to the whole. Sometimes I wish we could just wave a magic wand for the folks who have forgotten!
At various points in my life I have adjusted course to move closer to my life’s purpose. I think all of what I’ve done has been part of that purpose, but some has seemed more distant or more of a way station. Now I am evaluating everything because I have to adjust due to some physical injuries. So it becomes really important to know what is part of my life mission, what I will retain, versus what is a distraction or unnecessary.
Sorry to hear about your physical injuries Judy. I think the more we try to control or understand things on a linear level the harder it is to see. I would suggest that it isn’t that important to try to figure it all out and to trust that all of it is necessary for one reason or another. Just accept and surrender to what is and let your heart do the speaking – the answers are there for you in your heart! Sending healing energy to you!
I too love this poem my Marianne Williamson. Its been a fav for quite some time. I first found it many years ago when I was coming out of a deep clinical depression. A mess that I now see as my miracle. As something, that though I never want to do again, was good for me. I know that I understand that dark heavy feeling that my client’s describe and I feel that their knowing that I was once there too, breathes a hopeful feeling into them for their own futures. Its a gift that I have to offer.
I so enjoyed your description of the job application in the auditorium. I find it fascinating to think that you could in any way feel memory about something like that. Its such a comforting feeling that comes to me reading that. Brilliant post. Thanks for sharing.
Much love
Kate
When I started coaching I thought I had to be perfect so I didn’t disclose many of my own previous struggles. But like you, I have found that me being vulnerable and authentic is the true healing piece for them as well! I agree with you 100%!
I agree with you and LOVE the image of the souls clamoring to be incarnated 🙂 I also agree with Judy that being off purpose has been part of finding the purpose, at least for me. I feel that I have finally found mine and of course it was there all along. But I needed to go through all the other stuff to get here 🙂
Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz – she ALWAYS had the power! I love your purpose Louise!
I am truly inspired by your blog Laura! You have brought tears to my eyes and I can feel why I did come back to be here at this time. You must be a very old soul, because your writings are very wise and profound. I would love to work with you and become more enlightened from your teaching.
Thank You!
Bill
Thanks Bill, what a wonderful comment to read! I am glad I was able to inspire you. You can always set up an appointment through my Work With Me page or feel free to email me if you want more information and/or have questions. Thanks!
Thank you so much for writing this. I feel like I’m at the point in my life where everything is going to shift into high gear and I’m finally making my way to my soul’s path. I feel so at peace and things are just so good. It’s crazy when you just know and feel so much to be true about the world/universe and other people in your life can’t. Thank you for making it okay to be a part of that world, validating that I’m not alone and I’m not crazy : ) Love and light to you!!
That’s a great place to be Becca! Keep moving forward with your dreams!
